Senior Eye Health Ohio, Preventing Blindness

Senior Eye Health Ohio

While surfing the net for the topic of senior eye health Ohio, I found documentation that shows that the state of Ohio is being proactive in preventing blindness among its elderly citizens for quite some time.

Prevent Blindness Ohio is a voluntary not-for-profit organization that was founded in 1957, and serves all counties in the state of Ohio. The organization educates consumers about what they can do to protect and preserve their eye sight. Prevent Blindness Ohio is an affiliate of Prevent Blindness America is the country's second oldest national voluntary health organization, per the published document from the company.

affordable senior citizen health coverage

affordable senior citizen health coverage

As far as affordable senior citizen health coverage goes you do have some options. Granted most seniors do live on a fixed income, so what is affordable to some may not be affordable to others. There is medicare for supplimental coverage.

Until the United States gets universal health care under control, your options may be limited. There are ways to cut costs on perscriptions though. If you are a member of AAA then you can sign up for their perscription coverage which is free with your AAA membership.

Another way to save on perscritions is to know where to get your perscriptions filled. Stores like Sam's club and Costco will fill your perscriptions without a membership. Some research shows that they offer significant savings as compared to CVS, Wal-Mart and Walgreens, thus freeing up some money to put towards making your health care more affordable.

Who's Better For Senior Health Insurance

senior health insurance

Let me first qualify everything I will say from this point on, I am a Democrat. I recently read that the average Baby Boomer needs to save an additional $200,000.00 over what is needed for income, for additional healthcare needs. I am a bit younger so I cannot image what I will need.

What I see as the problem for our current healthcare system is people live longer. Seniors are living well into their 70's. The system as it stands cannot handle the extended life of our seniors. If we continue with what we are doing only the wealthy will retire the rest of us will work for coverage. Medicare has gaps that seniors cannot afford. We see stories all the time about it.

The Republicans want to continue business as usual or privatize the system. We have seen where privatizing has gotten us. For many millions in the U.S. privatizing is simply eliminating retirement. The Republicans have really put no plan to fix the situation and do nothing, but use smear campaigns about socialized medicine.

I know a lot of Canadians. I grew up on the boarder and my grandmother was from Canada. I also have a fishing camp in Ontario. Last summer I had to take my father to the hospital in Perry Sound, Ontario for Bronchitis. It took 4 ½ hours in the Emergency room on a Sunday and we got excellent care. In contrast my friend from out-of-town was visiting me just last week. She received a call because her father was in the hospital for a blood clot. He sat 10 hours in the emergency for a life-treating situation. Tell me what works. One note both hospitals are about the same size and service the same size local population.

Socialized medicine does work and we all need to really take a look at our north neighbors for guidance.
