Clinton Ad Gives Hope For Affordable Health Insurance For Senior Citizens!!!

affordable health insurance for senior citizens
Senator Hillary Clinton launched a new television advertisement in Iowa and New Hampshire this past Monday that was designed to reach senior citizens. In a 30-second spot, Clinton highlights her role as an advocate for the elderly by focusing on key issues of the demographic: Social Security and long term health insurance.

Clinton asserts she is the candidate that has been with seniors "all along." The Republican National Committee immediately responded with a sharp critique of the New York Democrat's advertisement.

"How can Senator Clinton claim to be there for you, when she will not even give a straight answer on how to save Social Security? The one thing we know about Hillary Clinton and Social Security is that she was definitely there in the White House when Bill raised taxes on benefits and she was definitely there in the Senate when she refused to repeat it." Those words were the rebuttal to Clinton's ad.

Affordable health insurance for senior citizens is always a hot topic come election time. Senior citizens make up a huge voter demographic and candidates always make sure to put their needs at the top of their to-do lists while in office. This upcoming Presidential election is no different. With the baby boomers getting ready to collect their Social Security, keeping senior citizens happy with affordable health insurance has become a huge issue in our society.

Health Insurance Plans For Senior Citizens Increase As Baby Boomers Start Collecting Social Security!!!

health insurance plan for senior citizen Is it not great to be a senior citizen during these exciting times for our country? This October is certainly heading in the direction of being one of the more "interesting" months for senior citizens to observe - mostly in dismay.

Earlier this month senior citizens across the nation watched as the first Baby Boomers began to register for and to claim their Social Security Administration benefits. What this will mean to senior citizens personally and to the overall financial solvency of and confidence in the social security system depends on whose political spin you listen to - and on whether or not you plan to live a long and prosperous life.

Also, the Federal Drug Administration announced this month that food from cloned cattle, pigs and goats is "likely to be as safe as" food from their non-cloned counterparts. However, many senior citizens will not be affected by the FDA's announcement since there no longer is any money left in the typical citizen's budget for food.

The announcement this month by social security of a 2.3 percent increase in social security recipient benefits beginning in January 2008 is already "earmarked" by most seniors to pay for unfunded medical, energy and other "very real" increases in the cost of living that a 2.3 percent hike just does not begin to cover.

Health Insurance Plans For Seniors Expand!!!

health insurance plan senior Health insurers are promoting a new type of Medicare coverage for seniors in 2008 that potentially offers better coverage than traditional government-sponsored Medicare. The new plans, called private fee-for service, also raise questions about the long-term direction of Medicare because they cost more than traditional coverage but are not held to higher quality and efficiency standards.

Under traditional Medicare, seniors choose their doctors and hospitals, and are typically responsible for 20 percent co-pay regardless of the service. The government handles the billing. Private fee-for service is similar, except the plans are set up and administered by insurance companies. Co-payments are often lower than 20 percent, and insurers sometimes add benefits.

Though they have proliferated nationwide since the Medicare Modernization Act was passed in 2003, there were not any private fee-for-service plans until January. The pitch to seniors is that the private plans offer more benefits than traditional Medicare, such as coverage for dental, vision, and hearing services.

They also do not restrict members to particular doctors or hospitals. They also do not require subscribers to choose a primary care physician or get a referral to see a specialist. For 2008, many Health Care companies are expanding their fee-for service plans to members throughout the country.

Senior Home Health Care Becoming An Important Social Issue!!!

senior home health care
Senior citizens are a vital part of our community. The senior population is growing rapidly, due to advances in medical technology, more second-home owners retiring and the first wave of baby boomers turning 60. Senior home health care has become even more important.

This trend brings with it some practical concerns about caring for these valued and sometimes vulnerable members of our community. The diversity of seniors in your area indicates that there is a need for a multifaceted approach to provide our seniors with the choices and quality of care they deserve.

Some seniors are asking for an assisted living facility in their local areas, but there is reason to believe that we need much more than assisted living. We need a comprehensive solution that will ensure that our senior citizens will be able to stay near friends and family for all future health needs. Some of our seniors will need retirement communities, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and home care.

Other seniors just need a little support with meals and transportation and a place to gather with their friends. Caregivers need support that will help them keep their friends and family members at home as long as medically possible.

Seniors, as a group, are healthier than past years. But even healthy, active seniors can have an injury that requires short-term rehab in an extended care facility. In an ideal situation, aging seniors live with caring family members, but as we all know the world is not always ideal. Some seniors need more medical care than a family member is available to provide at home.

Senior's Need To Review Their Supplemental Health Insurance Plans For '08

senior supplemental health insurance
According to the Medicare Rights Center, all seniors enrolled in a Medicare private health plan should review their health coverage options for next year, since most private plans will change their costs and benefits.

People have the right to change Medicare health plans for 2008 from November 15th through December 31st. Most people can also change their health plans once, between January 1st and March 31st; they are then locked into their health plan for the rest of the year.

Americans with Medicare can choose to receive their health benefits through Original Medicare, the public program that allows you to see virtually any doctor anywhere in the country. Four out of five senior citizens with Medicare keep Original Medicare.

Medicare private health plans, another option, are available through private insurance companies, and are generally managed care plans where rules and restrictions apply.

Some things to consider when deciding whether to join a Medicare private health plan are: will I be able to use my doctors, which specialists, hospitals, home health agencies and skilled nursing facilities are in the plan's network, do I have to pay a premium, how much will it cost to see my primary care physician, and what service area does the plan cover.

These are just some of the many factors involved when deciding to join the healthcare services industry. People with Medicare need to be on guard against private health plan marketing abuse and fraud. Misunderstood sales agents have been known to take advantage of people's confusion and enroll them in health plans they never intended to join.

What Exactly Is SHIP? It Is Helpful For Your Senior Health Insurance Program!!!

senior health insurance program
SHIP has become a popular acronym with candidates running for office. SHIP refers to the Senior Health Insurance Program. Some states are offering SHIP as a free health insurance counseling service for Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers. SHIP is sponsored by that particular state's Division of Insurance.

Many state departments have developed lists of publications and other resources to assist you in making informed health insurance decisions. You must know that SHIP is not affiliated with any insurance company. SHIP counselors do not sell or solicit any type of insurance.

Many SHIP counselors are trained to educate consumers and answer questions about Medicare, Medicare Supplement, long term care insurance, Medicare HMO's, private fee-for-service and other health insurance. They can also help you organize and assist in filing Medicare Supplement claims, and analyze Medicare Supplement and long term care policies.

For those of you that are interested in becoming part of SHIP, you must know that all coordinators and counselors must be affiliated with a sponsoring organization. If you are interested in becoming a counselor, SHIP can put you in touch with a local SHIP sponsoring organization prior to training, if available.

The coordinator is the individual responsible for the local administrative aspects of the SHIP program, including promotion SHIP services, scheduling counseling sessions, and responding to counselors' needs. This individual is usually a staff person at the sponsoring organization and acts as a "manager" for SHIP.

Senior Health Care Insurance Making Advances In Alzheimer's!!!

senior health care insurance
The future for Alzheimer's looks extremely bright. And this is very good news for senior health care insurance. A huge reason in the advancement in Alzheimer's care is a new drug called memantine.

Memantine is a drug that has been approved for more than 10 years in Germany under the trade name Akatinol-Memantine for treatment of various neurological conditions. It acts on other receptors in the brain.

At the World Alzheimer Congress, back in July, Barry Reisberg, M.D. of New York University School of Medicine reported favorable results of a Phase III trial of memantine in people with moderately severe to sever Alzheimer's disease.

According to Reisberg, these are the stages when people develop problems with dressing. Problems with dressing, bathing, and other daily activities and when behavioral symptoms that often complicate Alzheimer's tend to become significant.

As a result, these are also the stages that cause the greatest caregiver burden and represent the points at which families tend to move relatives with Alzheimer's from their homes into assisted living arrangements. With all the advancements in medicine, it is only a matter of time before there are more affordable options for senior health care insurance. Good news for all senior citizens.

Silver Sneakers Program Offers Better Health Options For Affordable Senior Health Insurance!!!

affordable senior health insurance SilverSneakers is a senior fitness program for those that are 65 and older. When healthier, you can expect more affordable senior health insurance because your body is stronger and more in shape. Founded in 1992, the national program is sponsored entirely by three major health insurance companies: Humana, Health Net, and Secure Horizons.

Many seniors love the fact that insurance companies participate in the sponsorship of SilverSneakers. The insurance companies have the feeling that if they encourage senior citizens to participate in this program, it can lead to longer lives and in the long run promote affordable senior health insurance.

The population-based program can be found throughout the United States and is primarily sponsored by local YMCA's and Gold Gym's. As part of the program, members of these three healthcare programs receive free gym memberships to any Silver Sneakers affiliate across the United States.

SilverSneakers fitness classes are based around the notion that you do not have to be running, or even walking, to get a good aerobic exercise. By using resistance tubing, 2 to 5 pound weights, and a lightweight medicine ball, participants increase bone density, muscle mass, and improve hand/eye coordination.

SilverSneakers provides plenty of opportunity for seniors to interact. Not only do they provide free fitness classes and gym memberships. Each region organizes social outings for participants.
